„Als hätten sie nie was anderes gemacht, sortieren sich Angry Youth Elite musikalisch einfach selbst ins Fat/Epitaph-Regal ein – mit Geschmack und Schmackes.“ befindet Ingo Knollmann von den Donots.
Mit ihrem Debüt katapultierte sich die Band aus dem Ruhrgebiet direkt in die erste Liga der europäischen Skatepunkszene. Statt profilloser Poppunk- und Nonsens-Texte, gibt es politisch aufgeladene Hardcore-Kanten wie bei Good Riddance, die positive Verweigerungshaltung früher Pennywise und mehrkehlige Singalongs à la Millencolin. Über allem schwebt ein Bewusstsein für die Wurzeln aus den 70ern, das bis zu einem kurzen aber prägnanten Reggae-Einwurf reicht.
Dass diese Mischung auch live bestens funktioniert, beweisen Angry Youth Elite seit jeher. Ob im Club, auf Festivals oder zusammen mit den Helden der Jugend (u.a. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, No Fun At All, Pulley) – jedes Mal bleiben grinsende Gesichter und durchgeschwitzte Bandshirts zurück.
Nach der Veröffentlichung der Charity-Single „Say Anything“ mit den US-Punkern The Bombpops meldet sich die Band 2023 zum Quartett gewachsen und mit zweitem Album zurück.
„All Riot“ erschien im Juni 2023 und präsentiert in elf mitreißenden Punkrocksongs die logische Weiterentwicklung der Band. Punktgenau und aufs Wesentliche reduziert, ist die druckvolle Produktion von Michael Czernicki (u.a. Rogers, Alarmsignal) der einzige Luxus, den sich Angry Youth Elite in knapp 25 Minuten gönnen.
Wie schon auf ihrem Debüt, leugnet die gar nicht mehr so junge Youth ihre Wurzeln aus den letzten Jahrzehnten des Punkrocks nicht und bringt den Sound und den Zeitgeist aus 2023 aufs Tableau.
In Anbetracht dessen, was auf der Welt so passiert, könnte der Albumtitel nicht passender sein. Wer hinter „All Riot“ aber Fingerzeig und Moralpredigt erwartet, liegt falsch. Klar prangert die Band soziale Ungerechtigkeit und den Umgang der Menschheit mit den Ressourcen unseres Planeten an, der Fokus wird allerdings durch Themen wie Älterwerden, Suchtprobleme und Obdachlosigkeit erweitert und verleiht dem Album eine sehr persönliche Note. Kurzum eine Platte, die dem internationalen Standard in Nichts nachsteht.
„All Riot“ erschien am 16. Juni 2023 auf Bakraufarfita (u.a. 100KiloHerz) im Vertrieb von BrokenSilence. Gefördert ist das Album durch die Intiative Musik. Für Verlag zeichnet die Punkrockschmiede Uncle M verantwortlich. PR übernimmt Nick von Jo-Pr.

With their debut, the band from the Ruhr area catapulted themselves straight into the premier league of the European undergorund skate punk scene. Instead of profiless pop-punk and nonsense lyrics, there are politically charged hardcore edges like Good Riddance, the positive refusal attitude of early Pennywise and multi-throated singalongs à la Millencolin. An awareness of their roots from the 70s hovers over everything, which extends to a short but concise reggae interjection.
Angry Youth Elite have always proven that this mixture also works perfectly live. Whether in the club, at festivals or together with the heroes of youth (including Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, No Fun At All, Pulley) – grinning faces and sweaty band shirts are left behind every time.
Following the release of the charity single „Say Anything“ with US punk band The Bombpops, the band grew into a quartet in 2023 and returned with their second album.
„All Riot“ was released in June 2023 and presents the logical development of the band in eleven rousing punk rock songs. Precise and reduced to the essentials, the powerful production by Michael Czernicki (e.g. Rogers, Alarmsignal) is the only luxury that Angry Youth Elite allow themselves in just under 25 minutes.
As on their debut, the not-so-young Youth do not deny their roots from the last decades of punk rock and bring the sound and zeitgeist of 2023 to the tableau.
Considering what’s going on in the world, the album title couldn’t be more fitting. But anyone expecting finger-pointing and moralizing behind „All Riot“ is wrong. Of course, the band denounces social injustice and humanity’s use of our planet’s resources, but the focus is broadened to include topics such as ageing, addiction problems and homelessness, giving the album a very personal touch. In short, a record that is in no way inferior to the international standard.
